San Francisco, CA
An artist throughout life, the potter’s wheel was introduced to Susan Gregory in the mountains of North Carolina during a dinner party where the host offered turns in her studio. Captivated by the process, she followed by studying ceramics and painting at Western Carolina University and Penland School. While revering the craft tradition in which she began, Susan’s work maintains a relationship with contemporary design, fashion and silhouettes of mid-century modernist ceramics. Each piece is intended to bring art into everyday life. In 2005, she became an owning partner of cone 10 studios in Charleston, SC and continues to be involved in the ceramic community there. In 2011, she moved with her family to San Francisco and is a resident artist at SMAart Studio and Gallery. Maintaining both worlds as well as family life is a balancing act but one that offers constant interest and revelation.
